Quality of Life in Dermatology

Quality of life in dermatology is the study of how skin diseases in the patients affect their physical domain, emotional disposition and social functionality. The social repercussions of skin diseases are significant and include ostracism, a loss of self-regard, and acute social isolation. Generalized social implications and the psychological impact of chronic social diseases of the skin make the study of dermatology unique. Outcome measures that incorporate patients’ self-assessment before and after treatment are important in dermatology. Research in this field justifies inter-disciplinary approaches, and completes the treatment of dermatological conditions by emphasizing the neglected aspects of care.
