Biography -

Dr. Diego Bagnasco is an Assistant Professor in Lung Diseases at the Clinic of Respiratory and Allergological Diseases, Ospedale Policlinico San Martino, Genoa, Italy. Since 2020, he has led the Severe Asthma Clinic and the Pregnancy Asthma Clinic, focusing his clinical and research activities on severe asthma, hypereosinophilic diseases, and the use of biological therapies. He earned his degree in Medicine from the University of Genoa in 2011 and completed his specialization in Respiratory Diseases in 2017, graduating with honors, followed by a PhD in Clinical and Experimental Respiratory Physiopathology in 2019. He was awarded a post-degree research scholarship (2019-2020) to identify predictive response biomarkers in severe asthma patients treated with Benralizumab and completed an international fellowship at the Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit (BRU), Glenfield Hospital, Leicester (UK), where he studied severe asthma, COPD, and the pulmonary microbiome. Dr. Bagnasco has extensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of severe asthma, including participation in international clinical trials on biological therapies such as omalizumab, mepolizumab, reslizumab, dupilumab, tralokinumab, and benralizumab, and he possesses advanced skills in respiratory physiopathology and functional testing. He has authored over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to book chapters including Diagnostic Evaluation of the Respiratory System, is a frequent speaker at national and international scientific meetings, and has received multiple awards, including the SIP/IRS scholarship for the RASP-UK Biomarkers in Asthma project. He is an active member of professional societies including SIAAIC, SIP/IRS, WAO, and GLMS.
