Genomics and Precision Medicine

Genomics is the comprehensive study of an organism’s complete set of DNA, including all of its genes and their functions. By analyzing genetic sequences, variations, and regulatory elements, genomics provides critical insights into the biological mechanisms underlying health, disease, and individual traits. Technological advancements such as next-generation sequencing (NGS) and CRISPR gene editing have revolutionized the field, enabling high-resolution analysis of genetic data at unprecedented speed and scale.

Precision medicine leverages genomic information, along with data from proteomics, metabolomics, and environmental factors, to tailor medical care to individual patients. This approach moves away from the traditional “one-size-fits-all” model, offering more accurate diagnoses, risk prediction, and targeted therapies based on a person’s unique genetic and molecular profile.
