Alberto Nico is an Italian qualified lawyer specializing in data protection, AI governance, and intellectual property, with over a decade of experience advising on the legal and regulatory dimensions of emerging technologies. He serves as Data Protection Officer and supports public bodies, private companies, and international consortia with GDPR compliance, DPIAs, and privacy-by-design implementation. He is Director of PFE – Project for Europe (Brussels), where he designs and manages EU-funded initiatives (Horizon, Erasmus+, AMIF, Creative) focused on digital rights and tech regulation. Alberto also leads in-house legal operations and conducts AI research at an accredited private R&D institute, and is pursuing an industrial PhD in Law & Technology on “Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence.” He publishes and speaks on topics including explainability, accountability, and the ethical-legal governance of automated systems.
